We provide qualitative data analysis using established approaches to thematic and content analysis. These methods can be applied to a range of non-numerical data, including interview and focus group transcripts, open-ended survey responses, written notes, audio and video recordings, images, and other forms of qualitative information.

The approach to analysis is determined by the research objectives, study design, nature of the data, and research questions. Where appropriate, established methodological frameworks and procedures, including those described by Braun and Clarke and Vaismoradi et al., are used to support a systematic and transparent analysis.

The scope of qualitative data analysis may include:

  1. Data organisation and preparation
Organising qualitative data into a structured format suitable for systematic analysis.

  2. Coding and categorisation
Coding the data and grouping relevant responses into categories, concepts, or themes in accordance with the analytical approach and research objectives.

  3. Thematic and content analysis
Identifying and examining recurring themes, patterns, categories, and relationships within the data to support the development of meaningful findings.

  4. Analysis and interpretation
Examining qualitative responses and other relevant material to identify findings and interpretations that address the research questions and objectives.

  5. Presentation of findings
Presenting qualitative findings in an appropriate format, which may include tables, charts, diagrams, or other visual representations where these contribute to the clarity of the findings.

  6. Reporting
Preparing a structured written report presenting the analytical process, key findings, and their relevance to the research objectives. Where appropriate, the report may also discuss the implications of the findings for the study or organisation.
